MYSTERIES OF LORD SHIVA'S ABODE : KAILASH (PART 1)

Writer: Divyakshi Divyakshi

Mount Kailash is known to be the residence of Lord Shiva , with a spell bounding view of its surroundings and the feeling of spirituality attached to it... a yatra (journey) to the Kailash parvat is sure to leave even the most restrained person in tears.

As the first few rays of the Sun fall of Mountain... THE TOP OF KAILASH SHINES LIKE PURE GOLD !!

But Apart from its Scenic beauty and Spiritual relevance there are other reasons that intrigue some ... THE MYSTERIES OF KAILASH !!

So let's take a look at some of the many MIND BOGGLING MYSTERIES OF THE ABODE OF THE NEELKANTH ...

1. MOUNT KAILASH CANNOT BE CLIMBED ?

As surprising as it sounds, History is a witness of the fact that KAILASH CANNOT BE CLIMBED BY ANY MEANS !!

Several Mountaineers have attempted an unsuccessful climb. Their replies on not being able to do so still shocks the world...

People say that while climbing the mountain despite being on the correct route they get lost , a sudden snow storm hits them , they fall ill , get diverted from their path or the top vanishes all together !!!

IT IS ALSO BELIEVED THAT KAILASH PARVAT CHANGES ITS DIRECTION AND POSITION OCCASIONALLY !!

Milarepa is known to be the ONLY saint and person who climbed Mount Kailash. When you view from the Northern side of the mountain, there is a Monastery which is dedicated to him.

2. MOUNT KAILASH APPEARS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM ALL DIRECTIONS !

Most of us would not believe this at first because THE SHAPE OF A MOUNTAIN CANNOT CHANGE ALL TOGETHER when viewed from different directions ! Or can it ??

The face of Kailash parvat goes from being Wide at the Forth face to resembling a near perfect Pyramid at the east face ... but how ?

Well the answer might be simpler than we think ... What we observe while looking at all 4 faces is similar to what we can find in modern day optical illusions ( remember the one where an object looks like a sphere from one side and a triangle from the other ?)

3. THE MYSTERY OF OM PARVAT

THIS IMAGE HAS NOT BEEN EDITED ! It really is a mountain with an Om formation on it.

This is Om Parvat... it is called so because snow falls on this parvat to form the shape of an easily distinguishable Om.

Locals also say that the SOUND OF AUM IS PRODUCED WHEN SNOW FALLS ON THIS MOUNTAIN !!

According to the Puranas there are a total of 8 places where the formation of Om takes place naturally out of which ONLY ONE HAS BEEN FOUND TILL NOW ... And today we know it as OM PARVAT.

4. LORD SHIVA'S FACE ON KAILASH ?

This is an image of Mount Kailash taken from Google Earth... Do you see it ? IT IS INDEED THE NEELKANTH'S FACE ON ONE OF THE SIDES OF HIS ABODE !! If we look closely we can clearly see Lord Shiva's FACE , JATA (HAIR) , NOSE & MOUTH !

What could be a possible explanation for this ? Scientists believe that this is a result of the shadows by clouds or might be a mere coincidence ... but many believe that this face is visible because Mount Kailash is the place Lord Shiva calls home.

What the truth is ... we may never know...

5. THE LAKE OF THE GOOD AND THE BAD

Lake Mansarovar and Rakshastal lie in the shadow of the colossal Kailash Parvat.

While Lake Mansarovar is the LAKE OF THE GODS and represents positive energy… Rakshastal represents NEGATIVE ENERGY and literally translates to ' THE DEMON LAKE'!! ‘ These lakes are right beside each other, yet are completely contrasting.

Mansarovar is a fresh – water lake and the water in it tastes sweet and fresh whereas Rakshastal is a salt water lake and as the name gives away … it’s water tastes bitter and saline.

It is believed that Rakshastal was the spot where Raavan, the demon king of Lanka had performed deep penance to gain the blessings of Lord Shiva and it was only after taking a bath in the Rakshastal that all negative feelings and thoughts took control of him… It is also observed that that water in Mansarovar is always calm and serene while the water in the Rakshastal is always rough and turbulent.

6. CENTRE OF THE WORLD ?

This is not exaggeration…

Mount Kailash is the COSMIC AXIS ( also called Axis Mundi) It is the point where HEAVEN MEETS EARTH !!

Images from Google Earth verify the same.

DID YOU KNOW ?

The fact that Kailash Parvat is the centre of the world has been mentioned in ancient Indian texts dedicated to Science and Technology ...MUCH BEFORE GOOGLE EARTH AND THE TECHNOLOGIES WE USE TO ESTIMATE DISTANCES EXISTED !!

This Heavenly abode is also in synchronization with many World Monuments.

So when we say The Neelkanth's Abode ... does that mean ONE CAN SEE LORD SHIVA AND HIS FAMILY RESIDING THERE ?

The answer to this is simple... some claim to have spotted Lord Shiva on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra , some claim to have felt a SUDDEN SURGE OF POSITIVE ENERGY as they witnessed the divine Parvat infront of them. At the end it all comes down to what we want to experience and what we want to 'believe' is happening... Being Lord Shiva's abode doesn't mean that if we create tunnels in it or look up in the clouds somewhere we would find him... Rather it implies that everything the Mahadev knew has been contained in Mount Kailash in the form of certain energy

COULD IT BE THE DIVINE KNOWLEDGE EVERYONE SEEKS ?
