India is a country with diverse religions practiced and each religion has different gods, goddesses and energies. Now let's talk about Hinduism in particular which is said to be an Indian religion and dharma or a way of life in itself . So , the first thought that comes into ones mind on hearing 'Hinduism' is Gods , Goddesses

or as we call them Devtas and Devis respectively ~(˘▾˘~)

WHO ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IN

INDIAN MYTHOLOGY !!

Let's get to the Interesting part now ...

Indian Mythology has uncountable number of gods who are worshiped

but.... According to the Sacred and Ancient Texts

BRAHMA , VISHNU AND MAHESH ( SHIVA) ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT GODS !!!

Here's why ...

Vishnu -: symbolizes Sustenance These 3 Devtas are believed to have

Brahma -: symbolizes Creation created the universe !!

Shiva -: symbolizes Dissolution

There are numerous sacred texts ... or 'PURANAS' that glorify different Devtas

eg. The Matysa Purana , The Vamana Purana etc...

We all worship different forms or 'roop' of Devtas on different occasions , festivals or days of the week.

like - Lord Ganesh is worshiped before making a new start/starting something new to mark it as auspicious and receive his blessings , also worshiped on Ganesh Chaturthi .

People consider -:

SATURDAYS TO BE THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK TO WORSHIP SHANIDEV , MONDAYS TO BE THE BEST DAY TO WORSHIP LORD SHIVA , TUESDAY TO BE THE BEST DAY TO WORSHIP LORD HANUMAN and so on ...

BUT... NOT ALL THE DEVTAS & DEVIS ARE WORSHIPED IN HINDUISM !!!

SO KEEP READING , AS SHOCKING FACTS AND STORIES ABOUT CURSES AWAIT !!

BRAHMA

Brahma is the creator God , IT WAS HE WHO CREATED THE 4 VEDAS one from each mouth of his ... Its is said that the highest level of Knowledge or the Universal knowledge came from Brahma thus called BRAHMA GYAN !

THEN WHY IS IT THAT HE IS NOT WORSHIPED ?

WHY IS IT THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE TEMPLE DEDICATED

TO HIM IN THE WHOLE WORLD ?

Well, there's a story behind it ...

When the world had just been created , Brahma was extremely proud of everything he had created and to symbolize this pride of his, he created SHATRUPA , THE FIRST WOMAN and WHO HE CALLED HIS OWN DAUGHTER . Soon Brahma was attracted to her and claimed that she was his possession as he had created her , wherever Shatrupa would move , his gaze would follow ... as she tried to run away in different directions to prevent Brahma from continuously looking at her BRAHMA SPROUTED HEADS IN HER DIRECTION ! She finally ran straight up into the sky only to realize that he grew another head looking upwards !

This troubled and embarrassed Shatrupa to the extent that she went to Mahadev to ask for assistance . When Lord Shiva arrived at Brahma's abode and saw his 5 heads

(front , back , left, right , on the head)

He grew furious and Cut Brahma's 5th head ( thus , looking the way we know him in today's time , with only 4 heads) that faced the sky as a punishment for casting a bad look on his own daughter!

Why , you may ask ... This is because such behavior and the quality of attachment to worldly things was not expected of a Devta who was as learned as Brahma .

THUS , LORD SHIVA CURSED BRAHMA THAT THOUGH HE WOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN BY MANKIND BUT BRAHMA WOULD NEVER BE WORSHIPED IN ANY REGULAR HOUSEHOLD OR EVEN DURING ANY SACRED RITUAL !!!

MANASA DEVI ( OR MANSA DEVI)

MANASA DEVI IS THE NAAG GODDESS (SNAKE GODDESS) ... KNOWN TO HAVE HELPED LORD SHIVA AFTER HE DRANK POISON (halala) DURING THE SAMUDRA MANTHAN!!! Sister of Vasuki ( King of snakes , also worn by lord Shiva around his neck as an ornament) & Sheshnaag ( Lord Vishnu is seen resting on his coils) ... worshiped by naags mentioned in the Vedic Texts !!!

THEN WHY IS IT THAT SHE IS NOT WORSHIPED BY PEOPLE ?

WHY IS IT THAT SNAKES ( here snake gods) ARE CONSIDERED SO NEGATIVE , AND HATED BY MOST ?

The answer lies in what we all have been seeing since we were children and what we hear other talking about

First let's get to know about Naags and how they have been such an important part in Indian Mythology...

Since the time of Sages , Asuras , Boons and curses , snakes have been a symbol of immortality and are known to live in Naglok that has the most precious of all treasures ever known ( this might remind you of the NAGMANI)

SHESHNAAG ( ADISHESHA) SPREAD HIS HOOD TO PROTECT KRISHNA FROM THE UNFORGIVING RAINS ( became a shade) while he was being carried in a basket by his father Vasudev !!

VASUKI ( the king of snakes ) was among THE VERY FIRST TO START WORSHIPING THE SHIV LINGAM !!

Though these naags ( snake gods) have done so much for people and have always been devotees of The Mighty Lord Vishnu and Mahadev , now has come such a time that we humans associate them with EERINESS , DISGUST , FEAR(which is though , justified) ... Thus , worshiping snake gods would sound strange to many .

NOW LET'S GET BACK TO MANASA DEVI

During the Vedic period Naags were close associates of Devtas but were feared by human kind , as in order to protect themselves from people the naags would often bite the men who tried to harm them . Now , to cure those snake bites people started worshiping Manasa Devi who was the Snake Goddess ( also a symbol of prosperity)

As time passed people started praying to Manasa devi for reasons apart from snake bites . Manasa Devi started enjoying the importance that she got and WANTED EVERYONE TO WORSHIP HER !!

SHE WOULD BE KIND TO HER DEVOTEES BUT WOULD CURSE AND PUNISH THOSE WHO REFUSED TO WORSHIP HER AS THEIR SUPREME DEITY ...

The Devtas were watching everything ... Manasa Devi's behavior continued despite the best efforts of the Devtas to stop her .

THAT WAS WHEN THEY DECLARED THAT MANASA DEVI WOULD NOT BE REMEMBERED BY MANY , THOUGH SHE WOULD BE WORSHIPED BY A FEW PEOPLE (but would never consider her to be their supreme deity) !!!

And in Today's time ... Those people who remember Manasa devi are the FEW PEOPLE OF WEST BENGAL AND HARIDWAR !!

There are many Temples dedicated to her in these 2 states , where Manasa devi is worshiped most during the rainy season, which is the time during which snakes come out of their holes due to water logging. This is the time when the chance of getting bitten by snakes increases .

BUT ONLY IN THESE STATES ... MAA MANASA REMAINS FORGOTTEN BY OTHERS!

We all worship different idols , forms of God and some may even say that God does not exist in any form or shape and is just a divine force ....Well , whatever your belief may be always remember that God helps those who help themselves so it is of utmost importance to have faith in yourself ...Thus , ending on this note !!! ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ
